“I’m very excited that we’re switching over to solar,” Denise said. “Climate change is clearly a problem, and being able to do something to reduce our family’s dependence on fossil fuels is great.
Just recently, we had an ice storm here that knocked the power out for several days – not just our house, but our neighbors, and all the rest of this street,” she added. “When we have solar, we’re not going to have to worry about being in the dark and cold. We’ll be able to help our neighbors – some of whom are quite elderly – if they need a place to be warm and comfortable. This is what it means to be prepared for the world we’re living in now.”
Finding someone to install solar panels on the family’s slate roof has proven to be a bit of a challenge. “I actually didn’t know it would make a difference,” Denise said. “We already decided that this was going to happen and were in the process of assessing where the panels were physically going to be located when we were told you can’t have solar installed on slate roofs.
